1. Marquette and Jolliet, guided by Indians, discover the Mississippi River in 1673.

2. Every year, month, week, and daily, floods of new books, magazines, and papers on subjects of current interest are published.
                    
3. Andrew Jackson and William Henry Harrison were both military heroes which became Presidents of the United States in the mid-1800's. 

4. Over the centuries living standards have slow and substantially been improved, although each generation has complained of the need for more improvements.
                              
5. The poet e.e. cumming's trademark was their elimination of conventional punctuation and capitalization.
                                                   
6. Alcott's masterpieces not only provide several archetypal figures of American folklore and give a lively picture of nineteenth-century New England life.
   
7. The beautiful new table was large enough as to seat twelve people quite comfortably.
                                                        
8. Since a hospital is organized to protect and treat sick people, their goals, structure, and functions depend on the current state of medical science.
